I LOVE capturing families naturally, just as they are. That isn’t new about my work but I think often times I don’t say it enough! I like to get those natural smiles and looks that children give at the particular age they are in. The serious, happy, skeptical, funny, goofy faces that reveal their personality traits. The ones that parents remember so well when they look back at photos. The photos, many times, are what bring that quirk, look or essence of the child or family dynamics back to memory after that phase has passed. I know this all too well because it happens to me with my own boys. I’m not a fan of a lot of props and backdrops. Simplicity … just me, them and/or their families and the camera in between to tell the story. This session definitely exemplifies that.
This year I was asked to donate a session to my boys’ elementary school fundraising auction that they do annually for parent’s night. I was so happy to hear that this wonderful teacher was the highest bidder. She has taught my oldest 2 boys and they were lucky to have her. I can’t say enough good things about their school, Ellendale Elementary, and their teachers. They get so much love and guidance from them. They also learn tons about reading, writing and arithmetic but Ellendale teaches so much more than that. I feel lucky that I was able to capture a bit of this special family’s story.
We had perfect weather for our late Fall shoot. I met them all at the Grandparent’s home and we set out on their property to do their session in their garden area, currently unused in the season. I always say I’m a light seeker first and this area was perfect. The kids were fun and loving and they had to show me some tricks at the end … jumping in leaves from a bank! I had so much fun with ya’ll and I appreciate your time in front of my lens!
