Sky Retreat Wedding | Andrea and Matt

Andrea and Matt had a perfect wedding day at Sky Retreat in Purlear, NC just outside of Boone and Wilkesboro, NC. Sky Retreat is an amazing venue that I have had the opportunity to photography special events and weddings at numerous times. It NEVER EVER disappoints. Their day was clear and the sunset was so pretty that it couldn’t be done justice with imagery. It was chilly and windy which gave such a cozy vibe to the atmosphere. That was perfect for a fire in the fireplace during the ceremony on the deck overlooking the blue ridge mountains.

Andrea looked amazing and Matt so handsome! These two postponed their wedding from the Spring due to Covid so it was so great for this day to finally come. The gathering size may have been reduced but that didn’t take away from everything being awesome. The food from The Redneck BBQ Lab was some of the best BBQ I’ve had and OMG homemade biscuits and mac and cheese that was perfect! The cake from The Phoenix Bakery was so amazing, peanut butter chocolate that my assistant photographer had to know where it was from to try to get her hands on some later, hah. Y’all that says a lot coming from two wedding photographers that try a lot of cake and BBQ! LOL! It was also cute with its little chickens reflecting Matt’s love of chicken showing.

The evening was full of love, gathering and relaxation as everyone celebrated Andrea and Matt. Truly, we felt so lucky to be a part of your wedding day and enjoyed it immensely. The band The Local Boys played some awesome bluegrass and other traditional music. Seriously, what talent and what a pleasure to hear! If you ever get a chance to hear them I’d highly recommend.

Andrea and Matt’s love story  reflects back to November, 2017. You guys, I always ask my couples to write a bit telling me how they met and about the proposal or whatever they would like to share basically. With this one being so hilariously written I had to just copy and paste. Their words:

Andrea was swiping through the duds on Bumble when she came across Matt. He had reached out and, as the app requires, Andrea felt intrigued to respond to get the conversation started. After some witty banter about bowl games, sports, and Matt’s efforts to get free physical therapy advice, the two decided to continue their communication and, a couple weeks later, exchange phone numbers.

After Christmas, Andrea and Matt decided to plan their first face-to-face encounter for New Year’s Eve. It was love at first site when the two locked eyes in front of a soiled mattress in Matt’s apartment complex. They shared their first kiss at Boxcar Bar + Arcade at the stroke of midnight.

Throughout their relationship, the two embarked on romantic vacations and attended multiple sporting events and fishing trips constantly trying to discover new and exotic adventures. On October 24th, 2019, Matt proposed by their neighborhood river with Andrea’s sister, Katie, and mother, Robyn, to witness the beginning of a new and amazing chapter in their lives.

Andrea is a physical therapist who is close with her sister, mother, and friends. She grew up in Jupiter, Florida, so enjoys bringing Matt down south for trips to meet her friends and go fishing.

Matt grew up in Mount Airy, NC and is close with his mother and father. His father, Jim, is his best man and helped Matt get into raising and showing chickens as a hobby. Matt is a Stormwater Engineer who loves fishing, hunting, and looking to improve his status in the chicken show world.
